2012 Games & Preston Guild
The Mayan calendar suggests the world is about to end... Before that happens, the UK plays host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games!
By now, it can’t have escaped your attention that 2012 is a BIG year.
2012 is also a very special year for all residents of Preston. It sees the return of Preston Guild; a once-every-20-years’ celebration of Preston’s heritage commemorating the day the city was awarded the right of a Trades Guild, way back in 1179 BC by King Henry II.
We want to ensure that UCLan students don’t miss out on the chance to join in with the celebrations and so we are making 2012 our Games & Guild year. There will be loads of happenings throughout 2012 that tie in with both events and there will be loads of opportunities for you to join in as either a participant or volunteer.
Here is a small flavour of what you can expect to see:
2012 Flashmobs
A Games & Guild sports week
Costume making & float design for the Guild Community & Torchlight processions
Plus there will be various other events and volunteering opportunities tying in with the two celebrations.
The Union will be recruiting volunteers for our Games & Guild ‘Champions’ roles to form a ‘Creative Team’, a ‘Green Team’ and a ‘Marketing Team’. Information for these roles will go out during January so keep a look out in on the SU’s Bridge page for details on how to apply in mid-January.
If you are interested and want to find out more or to get involved as a volunteer please contact Joseph Cooper on SUClubsandsocs@uclan.ac.uk.
